Greenlee acquires Utilux, Telefonix

July 9, 2008 -- Textron Inc.'s Greenlee business unit has acquired Utilux, a manufacturer of electrical connectors and cable assemblies for electrical distributors and a number of European industrial segments. Additionally, earlier this year, Greenlee purchased some intellectual property from privately-owned, San Diego-based Telefonix, a copper testing equipment company.

With the acquisition, Greenlee adds key product offerings and capacity to its Klauke division, which is based in Remscheid, Germany, and is known for compression connectors and crimping and cutting tools. Greenlee representatives say the acquisition allows Klauke to better serve its existing customers, while at the same time adding important new customers for its connector and tool technology.

With revenues of about $28 million in fiscal year 2007, Utilux has about 220 employees and will continue to operate out of its Slovakian and UK locations.

Additionally, earlier this year, Greenlee purchased some intellectual property from privately-owned, San Diego-based Telefonix, a copper testing equipment company. Greenlee acquired the rights to Telefonix' intellectual properties and technologies and assumed current contracts with Telefonix' customers, including AT&T. The ToneRanger product line will now be manufactured at Greenlee's facility in Vista, California.

"Utilux and Telefonix are both welcome additions to Greenlee," comments Greenlee president Scott Hall. "Both companies have a proven history of developing and bringing successful, new products and techniques to their respective markets. These acquisitions will assist in the expansion of our product lines and in the growth of the sales of Greenlee's interconnection and communications test products."
