April 14, 2008 -- Mouser Electronics is now stocking a variety of Amphenol-Tuchel Electronics' C700 Smart Card connectors.
Amphenol-Tuchel says its Smart Card connectors are integral components of smart card readers/terminals, providing electrical contact to the smart card's pads. Designed to make secure contact to all cards designed according to ISO 7816, the connectors ensure reliable data transmission; communication with the chip card begins when the card is fully inserted and data contacts are all connected. An integrated card presence switch is then activated and signals to the connected circuitry that the card is ready to read/write.
Smart Card platforms are used in applications ranging from payment terminals, set top boxes, and vending machines, to access control units and automotive applications. The Amphenol-Tuchel line of Smart Card readers ranges from miniature sized SIMS over low profile SMT models up to high-end, value added versions such as hybrid readers for dual technology (magnetic stripe and chip) smart card applications. The company's Smart Card series includes the Vario, PUSHMATIC II, PUSHMATIC Slim, Flex, PCB Wiping, PCB Landing, Landing EZ, Hybrid, SIMLOCK, SIMBLOCK, and WINGBLOCK models.
Additionally, the company's newer PCB Landing and PCB Slimline readers offer PCI PED [Payment Card Industry Pin Entry Device] protection. Security covers are optionally available for these models, and can be customized to fit into specific dimensions. The readers also feature a tap-proof contact design and a one-card slot to avoid skimming attacks. The company notes that both cards for these readers are Pick-and-Place SMT mountable, to ensure a cost-efficient assembling process.
